The very popular Conte’s Bike Night returns Sunday, Nov. 24 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the BayPort Credit Union Holiday Lights Merry Mile along the Virginia Beach Boardwalk. Hundreds of participants enjoy the event that’s free and open to the public of all ages.
This is a family-oriented ride, not a competitive race. No advance registration is required. Conte’s Bikes is conducting the event, which is produced by Beach Events.
To participate, everyone must ride a bicycle. This is the only time bikes are allowed to ride through the light display during operating hours. The event is not for pedestrians. No cars will be allowed on the Boardwalk during the bike ride.
Riders will begin in waves to prevent congestion at the start and along the route. Riders will stay on the Boardwalk headed North and return on the designated bike path. This one-way traffic creates a smooth flow of bike traffic during the ride.
Riders are welcome to stop along the route to take photos to post on social media.
Parking for vehicles conveniently will be located in the Rudee Loop municipal lot at 2ndStreet. Riders will enter the Boardwalk at 2nd Street. The turnaround is 22nd Street. Conte’s will staff a table and repair vehicle on the Boardwalk. They’re equipped to add air to tires, re-fit slipped chains and perform other minor repairs so everyone can complete their ride.
Santa Claus will lead the ride. A crew dressed in holiday attire and riding decorated bikes will immediately follow Santa as a “parade” start.
Riders are encouraged to decorate their bikes in holiday themes. The most original holiday bike will win a Conte’s gift certificate.
All bikers must complete their rides and be off the boardwalk displays by 7:30 p.m. as the BayPort Credit Union Holiday Lights Merry Mile opens to motor vehicles at 7:45 p.m.
